Industry Certifying Organizations
The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) is a non-profit, member organization that develops voluntary global safety standards for the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of recreational boats. 90% of boats on the water are built to ABYC Standards.
The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) is a worldwide, member based organization committed to enhancing the technology and safety of electronics used in marine applications through the development of standards and delivery of training.
EPA regulations (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F) under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act require that technicians who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release ozone depleting refrigerants into the atmosphere must be certified. Starting on January 1, 2018, this requirement will also apply to appliances containing most substitute refrigerants, including HFCs.
